The PTC and City University London are offering a scholarship of £5,000 towards the fees on the MA in Publishing Studies for the academic year commencing September 2008.
Funded by the PTC, this new scholarship is designed to tackle the issue of under-representation of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups in the book publishing industry in the UK. The 2007 Diversity in Publishing Report showed that only 7.7% of those working in publishing are from a BME background. The scholarship will go to a successful applicant from a Black African, Caribbean, Asian or Chinese background.
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of proven commitment to a career in book or periodical publishing in the UK, and a considered explanation of what the MA course will contribute to your learning and career development.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- have accepted a conditional or unconditional offer of a place on the MA in Publishing Studies for 2008/9 at the time of their scholarship application.
If you have not yet applied for a place on the MA in Publishing Studies, find out how to apply now - be resident in the UK at the time of their application and have an unconditional work already
- not be in receipt of awards towards their tuition fees from other funding sources. (Eligibility is not affected by funding covering maintenance costs).
How to apply
You must submit no more than 2,000 words on why you should be awarded this scholarship, what contribution you hope to make to the book or periodicals publishing industry in the UK if you are awarded the Scholarship, and what you may gain through this MA course.
Please provide evidence of your own research into the publishing sector or sectors that interest you most. You must also list any other funding sources you are applying for, and indicate how you intend to pay for the remainder of their fees and maintenance costs.
