The LSBU Annual Bursary scholarships

Mon, Jul 14, 2008

Education

The majority of full-time Home and EU undergraduate students starting in September 2008 or continuing from 2006 or 2007 will be entitled to an annual bursary from the University to help with course costs. There is no means testing and you don’t have to pay it back.

The amount of the annual bursary increases as you continue your studies to provide support when you need it most.

Those students who themselves pay yearly course fees of £3,145 or more, or are taking out a Tuition Fee Loan from The Student Loan Company for all or part of the £3,145, will be entitled to the bursary. For a standard three year course, our scheme works out as follows:

  • Year 1 of your course: £500
  • Year 2 of your course: £750
  • Year 3 (final year) of your course: £750 + graduation bonus of £250 (Hons graduates only)

Over three years you could therefore receive up to £2,250 in support by choosing LSBU for your studies. The graduation bonus will be paid to you once you have successfully graduated. We are confident that our scheme provides a simple, straightforward financial support package for course costs.

Our bursary scheme also applies to the full-time PGCE and full-time PG Dip Architecture courses (all other criteria, detailed above, apply).

How to apply for the LSBU Annual Bursary

To ensure that you receive LSBU’s Annual Bursary, you will need to complete the appropriate application for student finance, depending on the type of student you are, even if you are ineligible or are not applying for any other student support.

You can apply online at Student Finance Direct. The online application process is fast and easy. You can also submit a paper application, if you prefer.

If you are a new Home full-time undergraduate, download and complete form PN1.

If you are a continuing Home full-time undergraduate, download and complete form PR1.

If you are a new EU full-time undergraduate, download and complete form EU8N. Having submitted this form you will be sent form EU2 to complete and return.

If you are a continuing EU full-time undergraduate, download and complete form EUPR1. Having submitted this form you will be sent form EU2 to complete and return.

Whether you apply online or complete a printed form, please pay special attention to the section covering bursary consent. Applicants who want to be considered for the University bursary must agree to the bursary consent statement.

When will I receive my LSBU Annual Bursary?

You will normally be paid your bursary in two instalments, February and May subject to:

  • your enrolment on a qualifying course
  • your application for support having been processed on time
  • quotation of the correct fee on your application for student support
  • any fees that you owe not covered by your tuition fee loan having been paid in full.

The University is required to confirm your attendance on the Attendance Confirmation Report issued by the Student Loan Company, before payment can be made. LSBU cannot guarantee payment of your bursary if you have not completed the appropriate steps and provided the required information by the end of the academic year 2008/09.
