Teacher preparation programs exist in every state and usually cater to the state’s teaching requirements. Try to choose a program that offers a variety of options. If you enter your education experience wanting to be an elementary education major and change your mind, you want to have other options. Cost, location and degrees available will be important in choosing a school.
Visit the College or University
Don’t be shy. Go visit the College or University you are interested in. Take the tour, meet with students and faculty of your desired program to get a feel for how your education will take shape. Ask questions! This is a big step and you want to explore all your possibilities.
Apply
Once you have narrowed your search, apply. Don’t put all your hope into one school. Choose several options. One school might be a reach, while another might serve as a safety net should you not get into your first choice.
