Chicken Feet used in Science Lesson

Education

chicken feetWhile teaching the human body (skeletal system) I purchase chicken feet from the local Mexican market and GIVE my students hands on experience as to how Ligaments actually work.

First, after purchasing the feet, I soak them in a bucket of part bleach, part water, to get rid of any bacterial on the feet.

Second, I make a Y cut on the underside of the chicken feet (the part that would touch the ground). When you do this, you’ll see strands of white bands. Instruct the students to pull on the strands. All together, one at a time…they quickly understand the focus of the instruction.

You can freeze the feet afterwards…and use them for future science labs!

***You’ll need a really SHARP knife to make the Y cuts***
